THU    FRI    SAT    SUN

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9
TAOS COMMUNITY AUDITORIUM
6:00 PM

URUCA
6:00pm - Friday, October 9th, Taos Community Auditorium
11:30am - Sunday, October 11th, The Taos Gallery

Animated climbing films are, sadly, a rarity of our genre. Uraca is a gem. Cleverly spoofing a couple of clichés: the seasoned veteran sandbagging the eager youth, the talkative second describing every move to the terrified leader, this short provides a hilarious contrast to the serious tone of the standard climbing film. www.grigorovski.com Four awards including Best Film on Rock Climbing at 2009 Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival. Erick Grigorovski, Brazil, 8 mins, 2008

SIR CHRIS BONINGTON
6:00pm - Friday, October 9th, Taos Community Auditorium

Sir Chris hardly needs an introduction to those with a remote interest in the mountaineering world. Starting long before it was fashionable, he has, for half a century, forged a career in the uncertain medium of the mountain world. His climbs are legendary and, in some cases, epic; his films have won accolades; and any collection of mountain literature would not be complete without copies of his books. Sir Chris will present his lecture "Boundless Horizons", a chronicle of his life's adventures including the ill-fated Ogre expedition and a sailing trip with Robin Knox-Johnston to Greenland.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9
TAOS COMMUNITY AUDITORIUM
8:00 PM

BIDDER 70
8:00pm - Friday, October 9th, Taos Community Auditorium
9:30am - Sunday, October 11th, Taos Community Auditorium

The best ideas in the world are often glaringly simple. One such is Tim De Christopher's ploy to foil the federal government's auction of mineral rights to corporate interest. He registered as Bidder 70 and bid determinedly for the rights to mine ore in areas of Utah, with of course no intention of mining or paying for the privilege. He will attend the festival immediately after his trial, if he is not incarcerated. George Gage, USA, 8mins, 2009 In person: Tim de Christopher, George Gage

AMERICAN OUTRAGE
8:00pm - Friday, October 9th, Taos Community Auditorium

Why would the United States government spend millions of dollars prosecuting elderly native American sisters and confiscating their horses and cattle? Two feisty Western Shoshones, Mary and Carrie Dann have fought the feds since 1974 over grazing rights. The BLM claims the Dan's livestock are degrading the land. But could the fact that beneath the arid pasture lies the second largest gold deposit in the world have a bearing on the issue? Seasoned filmmakers Beth and George Gage weave a fascinating tale of government harassment and obstinate defense of tribal rights. George Gage, USA, 56 mins, 2008 In person: George Gage
